about
Tom Donald wrote “Where You Been” as an acclamation of sorts to working musicians everywhere, and the lives they lead, on and off the stage. That can be a beautiful, rewarding experience but it can also be difficult, and Glenn Walters captures it all in his performance. The East Bay’s own Jeanie Tracy supplies background vocals, and former SF resident Terry Medeiros lays in a bluesy, Albert Collins-influenced guitar. Alex Murzyn adds a honkin’ tenor sax.
lyrics
Where You Been All My Life
Saturday night, and the ladies look nice
And all them dudes is holdin’ on tight
I’m up here, tryin’ to get by
Blowin’ the blues on Saturday night
Hit the note, tell a joke
Rum-and-cokes gonna float my boat
That’s all right, it’s Saturday night
And where you been, where you been
All my life
All my life
All I can do is sing a song blue
And don’t ask why, don’t ask why
Your favorite tune, it’s moon and June
I get to croonin,’ you might start swoonin,’
But that’s all right, it’s Saturday night
Now where you been, where you been
All my life
All my life
What you gon’ do, tell me the truth
Where you been, where you been all my life
All my life
All my life
All I can do is sing a song blue
Make you feel something
And that’s the good news
